General Description:

Participants will review what ethics means for a CPA firm and its staff. CPAs will understand and be able to use the rules in practice. This interactive workshop designed for practitioners in small and medium-sized CPA firms will include lecture with generous time for questions and case studies to reinforce the concepts. Participants are encouraged to ask questions.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  • Summarize the major provisions of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Apply the Code to quality management of a CPA firm.
  • Apply the Statements on Standards for Tax Services.
  • Apply the Statements on Standards for Consulting Services.
  • Describe the CPA’s responsibilities regarding cybersecurity.
  • Analyze ethical dilemmas for CPAs, including prohibited transactions, independence rules, conflicts of interest, professional responsibility, subordination of judgment, and confidentiality, and disclosure in engagement letters.
  • Discuss ethical dilemmas for clients.
  • Develop and implement appropriate internal controls and engagement letter practices for the firm.
  • Analyze threats and safeguards in the firm.

Instructors:

Mark F. Wille, CPA, has been a peer reviewer and a member of the California CPAs Accounting and Auditing Committee for more than 30 years. His practice consists mainly of small business clients for whom he provides substantial strategic planning and financial coaching. He provides consulting for CPAs regarding various accounting and auditing matters and practice management, performs annual peer review inspections, and assists in the sale of their practices. Mark recently sold his practice to JLK Rosenberger CPAs.
